PlayState vs Trace

Every family follows free, not up to $300 a year each.

Trace leases a camera with a subscription each family pays for, and its highlights come up to 12 hours after the upload. PlayState puts the game on every family member’s phone while it happens, and one parent’s plan covers the team.

PlayState and Trace, row by row.

PlayState

A live score and stats app for youth soccer. One parent logs the game on a phone, and family follow it live in any browser while every player’s stats add up across the season. It doesn’t film the game. One parent’s plan, from $6.99 a month or $48.99 a year, covers up to 3 teams; following is free.

Trace

A leased AI camera on a 16 ft tripod that films the game and makes highlights of each player, up to 12 hours after the upload. Each family pays $180 to $300 a year for its own player’s video, and the camera comes with the yearly plans. A livestream is in beta.

Checked on October 6, 2026 on Trace’s own website. Prices are in US dollars before tax, on yearly plans unless noted, and they change.

Where PlayState is stronger

  • Cost. One plan for the team, from $6.99 a month or $48.99 a year; Trace charges each family $180 to $300 a year.
  • Setup. A phone in hand, not a 16 ft tripod with sandbags and an ethernet upload after the game.
  • During the game. The full play-by-play with a free account, not a beta livestream that needs a phone left under the camera.
  • Stats included. More than 30 stats for every player and the team, xG and xA included, from what you log. Trace’s player stats need the Pro plan.
  • Who did what. A parent who knows every player logs each goal and assist; Trace’s software works it out from video.

Where Trace is stronger

  • Video of the whole game, to rewatch and share
  • Highlights of each player, made automatically
  • A livestream, in beta
